Science Diplomacy

In collaboration with Dr. Paul Berkman, Executive Director, Professor Susskind is helping to create a new Science Diplomacy Center based in the Boston area. The Center will sponsor a series of training and capacity-building activities around the world. We are creating an online MOOC to help diplomats, especially in the Global South, learn the skills they need to engage in effective science diplomacy.
Science diplomacy is an important new area of research and practice that fosters closer collaboration between science and diplomacy at national and international levels and seeks to create constructive international partnerships. The Board of the Science Diplomacy Center also includes Professor Maria Ivanova (Dean of the School of Social Science at Northeastern University), Professor Saleem Ali (University of Delaware), Dr. Zackary in Malaysia. The Mercury Game and a Simulation entitled Cleaning Up the Merconium Mess were developed by the Science Impact Collaborative. They have been incorporated into training programs being sponsored by the Center for Science Diplomacy at AAAS and other teaching centers.
