Andre Turner

Doctoral Candidate at MIT and Environmental Scientist at U.S. EPA

I am a military trained leader of 7 years with experience in management, public policy, environmental science, sustainability, hazardous material and waste management. My experiences have provided me with strong project management skills with the ability to set priorities, collect and document project requirements, successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. I have proven experience with policy/program implementation and management.

The USNA, Columbia and MIT have empowered me with hands-on training, leadership opportunities, and a high caliber education in scientific inquiry, logical reasoning and problem solving. My Naval Academy capstone was nominated for the Williams Awards (best oceanography research paper), and I received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence. My Columbia University capstone is being used to make policy recommendations and implementation strategies for the Mayor’s Office of NYC to write regulations for NY State Senate Bill S5903A. I received the MIT Presidential Fellowship Award for outstanding academic record, exceptional background and promising future.

My educational and leadership training, namely my specialized focus on environmental science and sustainability, equips me with an understanding of policy and management and how policies are developed, implemented, and evaluated. As a member of a team, I am passionate about leveraging my leadership abilities, along with my knowledge in environmental science, policy and sustainability, to work collaboratively with my peers in finding innovative solutions.
