Emily Shorin featured in MIT News

April 28, 2015

Emily Shorin, a junior majoring in Environmental Engineering, traveled to the Big Island of Hawaii during the MIT Independent Activities Period to research the effects of volcanic emissions on air and soil quality. Along with 21 other undergraduates, Emily spent the month developing air quality sensors and analyzing soil samples to determine the environmental impacts of the volcanic smog, and how the results pertained to local residents and agriculture. Emily had the opportunity to present preliminary findings in a "Reef Talk" to local citizens who were interested in the scientific analysis. The group was featured on an MIT News story here.
